Music and poetry are my primary language. The musicians I adore, as well as what I create, are all about telling the story of life in a meaningful way -all of it, the struggles and the joys. Being a baby boomer, of course, I had access to the folk masters as they carried me through many challenging years. So sharing their music with my audiences, gives me great joy, as I know, their music carried many of you as well.
Painting is a newer language for me. Though in truth I’ve always been a creative. The technique that got me into painting is inspired by my teacher Shiloh Sophia McCloud. It follows aspects of the symbolist movement and adds the profound layer of intentional creativity, where we bring form from our life story using our imaginations onto the canvas. This technique requires no painting experience as it’s purpose is to help us understand our story, our limiting beliefs, maybe even the belief that we can’t paint. Take that to the canvas, and then that act of creation informs the healing, as needed, and we grow as human beings. I use acrylic because of the ease of adding layers and layers, each one adding dimension both in form and in releasing the old and blessing the new.
Photography is something I’ve dabbled with forever, as it’s such an efficient way to grab a moment that is deeply moving. And I’m easily moved! Not that there are enough hours in the day, but before I leave this plane, I aspire to take some of my favorite photos and turn them into some form of painting. I’m not sure what it is, but for me, there is something about that that creates an intimacy with the picture (that moment in time), like I get to really live in it for a while. I hope I live a long time because I have hundreds of such images!
I feel blessed that I have access to these beautiful forms of creation, to express and share with you, hopefully making your world a better place.
With gratitude,
Julie
